Acceptable Use Policy

TaxiTap may only be used to book real seats for real trips on long-distance minibus taxis. This policy explains what is and isn't allowed, and what we do when it is broken.

Last updated: 17 October 2026

1. What TaxiTap is for

TaxiTap lets passengers book a seat on a long-distance minibus taxi route at a rank we work with, and lets the rank check and board booked passengers. Each booking must be for a real trip by the person named on it.

2. Not allowed for anyone

  • Reselling tickets or bookings, or charging people extra for them (touting).
  • Booking seats you don't intend to use, to block them or resell them.
  • Sharing, copying, altering or faking tickets, ticket links or QR codes.
  • Sending fake or altered proof of payment.
  • Using a phone number, email or account that is not yours, or opening several accounts to get around a limit or suspension.
  • Requesting sign-in codes for numbers that aren't yours, or flooding our systems with requests.
  • Fraud, money laundering, or any other illegal activity.
  • Interfering with, reverse-engineering, overloading or trying to break into the TaxiTap website, apps or systems.
  • Threatening, harassing or pressuring passengers, marshals or drivers.

3. Passengers

  • Book in the name of the person travelling, and give a number they can be reached on.
  • Show your own live ticket page at the rank. Keep your ticket link private.
  • Follow the marshal's instructions and the rank's rules.
  • Pay your fare to the driver, as usual.

4. Ranks and marshals

  • Keep your rank's TaxiTap link private, and use it only on phones used by the rank's marshals.
  • Only board passengers whose ticket shows as valid, and board each ticket once.
  • Never ask booked passengers for extra money for their booked seat.
  • Use passenger details only to board passengers, and don't share them.

5. What happens if this policy is broken

We may, depending on how serious it is:

  • cancel the bookings involved without a refund;
  • warn you, or limit, suspend or close your account;
  • change or withdraw a rank's access;
  • report the activity to the taxi association, banks, and law enforcement or other authorities where required by law.

6. Reporting misuse

If you think TaxiTap is being misused, for example tickets being resold, contact us straight away at support@taxitap.net or +27 70 324 6358. See our Terms of Service and Booking Terms for the full terms.
