Privacy Policy

This policy explains how TaxiTap processes personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

Last updated: 30 September 2026

Who is responsible

TaxiTap (Pty) Ltd is the responsible party. Our Information Officer is Sisikelelwe Gomo, contactable at taxitap@gmail.com.

What we collect

  • Riders: name, phone number and/or email address, emergency contact (if you add one), trip and payment history, and approximate location while you use the map features.
  • Drivers: name, phone number, vehicle registration, the bank and last four digits of your payout account, trip and payment history, and location while you are live on the map.
  • Card details: captured and stored by Paystack. TaxiTap only keeps the card type, last four digits, expiry date and issuing bank.
  • Device information: push notification tokens and basic technical logs used to keep the service working.

Why we use it

  • To process fares and pay drivers.
  • To send receipts and payment notifications.
  • To handle refunds, disputes and support requests.
  • To prevent fraud and keep riders and drivers safe.
  • To meet legal, tax and accounting obligations.

Who we share it with

We share information only as needed to run the service: with Paystack (payment processing and payouts), our hosting and database provider, and push notification services. A driver sees the name of the rider who paid them. We do not sell personal information.

How long we keep it

We keep payment records for as long as required by tax and financial laws, and other information for as long as your account is active or as needed to resolve disputes.

Your rights

You may ask to see, correct or delete your personal information, or object to how we use it, by contacting taxitap@gmail.com. You also have the right to complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa.

Security

We use access controls and encryption in transit to protect personal information. Card data is handled by Paystack, which is certified to the payment card industry security standard (PCI DSS).
